THE high winds have forced the cancellation of this morning’s Steam Packet sailing from Douglas to Heysham.
The afternoon return sailing has also been cancelled.
The Ben-my-Chree’s docking in Douglas harbour this morning was also delayed due to the weather.
A spokesman explained: ‘As the Ben-my-Chree was approaching Douglas this morning, there was a sudden squall, gusting close to 60 knots. The Met Office advised that this squall was not expected, but was due to moderate soon.
‘The master opted to wait for the wind to moderate to ensure the safety of passengers, crew and vessel. Passengers on board were updated regularly.
In addition, the Steam Packet is warning the 7.45pm sailing from Douglas to Heysham is also at risk of cancellation due to the stormy weather.
A further update is due to be issued at 5pm.
