JUNIOR cricket has been given a boost by Colas IOM Group.
The southern-based private road surface treatment contractor has continued its support of Finch Hill Cricket Club in Douglas by funding a variety of new equipment.
As a result the cricket club was able to buy equipment for the juniors, which includes four under-13 boys, all of whom are attending the Isle of Man Cricket Development Programme this summer and two boys who are also in the Isle of Man Under 17 squad for this summer’s competition in Denmark.
Roy Corlett, Finch Hill’s coach and junior development manager, explained how grateful the club is to their long-standing relationship with Colas: ‘We have a number of very promising youngsters this year attending the IOM Cricket Development Programme, who can hone their talents further with the new kit.’ Roy said that previous investments that Colas has made has provided stability to drive the club forward, as two teams have been able to enter in the league this year, with the juniors featuring much more than they once had.
Fielding bats and stumps, various types of balls (cricket balls, rubber and tennis) and catching mitts are just some of the types of equipment that has been bought for the juniors.
Colas managing director, Steph Lowe said: ‘We are pleased to continue our support for Finch Hill as part of our corporate responsibility strategy. Developing local sporting talent is richly rewarding and the Isle of Man has a huge pool of talent across many sporting disciplines. We hope the new equipment will benefit all of the club’s members – and wish the boys competing in the IOM Cricket Development Programme the best of luck.’
