DIABETIC youngsters will benefit from Saturday’s Parish Walk.
Several people took part in the gruelling event on behalf of our Pumps 4 Kids campaign, which enables children to take advantage of pump therapy rather than enduring four or more injections of insulin per day.
Pumps 4 Kids is a joint campaign by Isle of Man Newspapers and the Manx Diabetic Group to eradicate a children’s waiting list for pumps. Our initial target was £20,000 and, thanks to the generosity of readers, more than £30,000 has been raised since the campaign was launched in March.
Two walkers supporting Pumps 4 Kids who braved often wet and windy conditions on Saturday were Kurt Jaeger, who works for Isle of Man Newspapers, and Joanne Clague of the Manx Diabetic Group.
Kurt completed the 85-mile course with back up support from colleague Vicky O’Donnell and says: ‘Vicky got me all the way to the finish with six minutes and 50 seconds to spare, thus proving miracles do happen.’
Kurt is donating more than £100 to Pumps 4 Kids. Joanne Clague finished at Peel and her sponsors helped her raise £500.
