Commonwealth Youth Games silver medallist Mathew Rennie has been selected to train with England Boxing this weekend.
If the 17-year-old impresses during Saturday’s trial he could be picked to represent England at next month’s European Championships in Poland.
Coach John Cain explained: ‘England Boxing are going to take on two 64kg boxers and one of those will go to the championships.’
‘We spent a week with the England team at a training camp in New Zealand prior to the Games in Samoa and they were impressed with Mathew there and in the competition itself.’
Light-welterweight Rennie, who is currently training three times a day, five times a week added: ‘I can’t wait. It’s a massive opportunity, which could lead to other things.’
The following week Rennie has been invited to train with the Great Britain emerging talent squad, a first for a Manx boxer.
