A total of eight Team RL360 riders competed in the British national final of the prestigious GHS 10-mile time trial championship, held in Ware, Hertfordshire last weekend.
The riders qualified for the final in last June’s Isle of Man heat at Jurby.
The start of the event was delayed for more than two hours while a lorry that had broken down on the course was removed.
Despite being slowed by a front-wheel puncture in the closing stages, Conor Davies was the quickest of the Manx contingent, clocking a speedy 21min 37sec for a fine eighth place overall.
Will Draper was close behind in ninth spot on 21.40, with Thomas Bostock a further 13 seconds back in 15th position with a personal best time of 21.53.
Despite all three RL360 members producing excellent 21-minute rides, their combined time of 65min 10sec was only good enough for second place in the team competition - a distant 61 seconds down on the Guernsey Velo Club’s time of 64.09.
In the younger age groups, Tosh Teare produced a PB of 22.50 to finish 33rd overall and fourth 14-year-old boy.
Jack Christian thought his race was over when he punctured on the way out to the turn, but a local cyclist kindly swapped front wheels with him and he was able to continue to the finish, salvaging 128th place in 32.17.
In the girls’ competition, Tara Ferguson and Amelia Sharpe were separated by a single second with Tara finishing 91st (second 15-year-old) in 26.16 and Amelia equal 92nd (third 14-year-old) on 26.17. Shellan Leeming was the second fastest 12-year-old girl in 127th position with 32.14.
The riders would like to thank RL360 for their help in financing the trip.
