Geoffrey Boot is the new MHK for Glenfaba.
He beat rival David Talbot in a contest so close a recount was called.
Boot received 424 votes, while Talbot received 421 in today’s by-election.
There were 845 votes cast and a turnout of 53 per cent.
It was Mr Boot’s third attempt to become an MHK.
There were two by-elections in the island tonight.
Both Glenfaba – which stretches from Dalby to St John’s and includes Foxdale and Patrick – and neighbouring Peel went to the polls after their sitting MHKs were elected to the Legislative Council.
