Thrill-seekers are revving up for the annual Drag Fest which takes to the tarmac at Jurby Airfield this weekend.
The event, now in its fifth year, is organised by the Manx Drag Racing Association in partnership with Straightliners and attracts two and four-wheeled vehicles from all over the UK.
Star attractions for this year’s Pokerstars-sponsored Drag Fest include the Postman Pat Van, holder of the Guinness world record for the ‘world’s fastest coin operated ride’. Tom Armitage from Leeds along with his buddy David Taylor built the Patvan which is capable of running the quarter mile in under 12 seconds!
Among the locals will be Malcolm Forbes of Sulby with his supercharged 5,700cc slingshot Dragster and Ian Merryweather of Ballaugh who will debut his supercharged 6,100cc 1938 Fiat Topolino.
Anyone with a roadworthy vehicle and full licence can enter the event, which is free for spectators. Gates open at 9am on Saturday and Sunday.
