Douglas Council is still awaiting the results of an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive after a young boy was thrown from a bouncy castle into the sea during Douglas Carnival.

The resurrected carnival, now in its second year, took place in blustery conditions on Saturday, July 18, when one of the bouncy castles on the promenade was partially blown over railings depositing the child in the sea.

Council leader David Christian said he was not sure when the health and safety report into the accident would be completed but added: ‘This was a big public event and we need to provide answers to the family of the young child who was involved. The Health and Safety Executive is an independent investigative body un connected with the council and it’s quite right that they should look into the matter.’

He added the council’s fun day had taken place in Noble’s Park on August 4 and the incident did not appear to have deterred visitors.

‘A detailed risk assessment was carried out before the fun day to ensure everything was in place and we had 2,300 visitors to the park that weekend as well as lots of car boot stalls,’ he said.
