There are now three names on the ballot paper ahead of the forthcoming House of Keys by-election in Peel.

Peel commissioners chairman Ray Harmer and David Pownall will join Leslie Hanson, who announced he would be standing last month.

Meanwhile, David Talbot has announced that he will standing in Glenfaba.

The Peel and Glenfaba seats were made vacant after Tim Crookall and David Anderson, respectively, were elected to the Legislative Council on June 22.

Mr Harmer, who is married to Adele with one son, Nathan, said: ‘I am delighted to announce that I will be standing for election as MHK for the Peel constituency in the forthcoming by-election.

‘Peel is a great place to live with a vibrant community at its heart which I care about very much. I was elected a Peel commissioner in 2009 and have served as chairman four times. Peel has a rich heritage and so much to offer. I believe strongly that working together is a vital ingredient for a bright future.

‘Over the next weeks I will be sending out leaflets to constituents, offering surgeries where people can come and chat and also visiting as many as possible.’

Mr Pownall, who unsuccessfully contested the last general election in Castletown in 2011, announced his intention to stand this morning (Tuesday). He said: ‘I would, if elected, direct all income from this position to cancer diagnostics in the Isle of Man. I recently lost a friend through this terrible illness and I think things could have been spotted earlier on the island.

‘I am also very keen to have more democracy regarding the Legislative Council elections. The public, in my opinion, should have their vote.’

Mr Talbot is an accountant and is chairman of the Manx Credit Union, as well as being trustee of a number of local charities.

He said that he is chairing a group to draw up a western plan, ahead of the government’s Strategic Plan.

‘We want to be ahead of the game,’ said Mr Talbot. ‘We need to look at the most efficient and effective way to transfer services to local authorities.’

Anyone who wishes to contest either of the by-elections must officially state their intentions by Monday, August 10.

The by-elections will take place on Thursday, September 10.
