ON A day when the Senior TT race was cancelled for the first time, history was made when Ryan Farquhar stormed to victory in the first Lightweight TT for Supertwin machines.
With the superb weather from the start of race week a distant memory, wet and misty conditions forced organisers to postpone Friday’s race schedule until Saturday.
Further bad weather meant that the racing was delayed for more than six hours before the showpiece Senior TT was eventually cancelled. However, the Lightweight race was given the green light and the three-lap contest finally got underway at 6.30pm.
Pre-race favourite Farquhar certainly didn’t disappoint as he used his experience to negotiate the potentially tricky conditions to secure victory by almost 30 seconds ahead of the impressive James Hillier who earned his first podium finish, with TT Zero winner Michael Rutter claiming third. Cameron Donald, Russ Mountford and William Dunlop completed the top six.
