SIX beacons were lit across the island on Monday as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
They were some of the more than 4,200 beacons lit across the UK, crown dependencies, commonwealth and overseas territories.
In Peel, a beacon was lit on Peel Hill at 10pm. It followed two Vikings processions, from the House of Manannan and the RNLI boathouse, which joined at Fenella Beach to go up Peel Hill. A beacon was also ablaze on top of Peel Hill by Corrin’s Tower. It was lit by Glenfaba MHK David Anderson and captain of the parish of Patrick Pat Costain.
Diamond Jubilee Working Group members Tim Crookall MHK and Geoff Corkish MHK lit a beacon on behalf of the government on Tynwald green, St John’s.
In Douglas, the beacon stood on St Ninian’s Church’s tower. It was lit at by mayor David Ashford and Archdeacon Canon Andrew Brown.
Island Freemasons lit a beacon at Strenaby Farm in Lonan. And the Isle of Man Civil Defence lit theirs at Slieau Lhost, near Windy Corner.
