Bride’s confidence crisis is just drama

A BRIDE had a crisis of confidence going down the aisle at Marown Church on Saturday.

Fortunately for everyone concerned, it wasn’t a real wedding.

In fact, filming was taking place on a short film, I Do.

The MannIN Shorts competition-winning screenplay, which tells the story of thirty-something bride-to-be Ella, who has her crisis when walking down the aisle on her wedding day.

Among her friends and family, she spots a few familiar faces who, through a series of flashbacks, remind her of how many near misses she’s had on her journey to this point in her life. Will she say, ‘I do’ this time? Or will someone else say it for her?

When asked how the filming went, Zoe Guilford said: ‘Wonderfully, better than expected in fact.

‘So far we’ve got all the shots on our elaborate shot list that we wanted, and in the time scheduled.

‘This is entirely thanks to a super crew, cast and extended family of extras, all working for nothing.’

Alongside the core cast of 10, a number of extras were needed.

Following an appeal in the Isle of Man Examiner for extras to be part of the church congregation, around 40 people came forward.

A small group helped out the following day as hens in the bridal shower scenes.

Zoe said: ‘Everyone who has taken part has been superbly flexible and patient – in addition to being great actors – and we count them now as valuable members of the cast.’

This week, the production team, cast and crew were due to complete filming on three further flashback scenes, which will then be followed by post-production.

The aim is for the film, which is being funded by the Isle of Man Arts Council, to be ready for September’s Isle of Man Film Festival.

Zoe said: ‘We couldn’t have succeeded without the support of the Manx community, especially the parish of Marown, who kindly allowed us to utilise their beautiful church.

‘Manx companies Interior Rehab, Bridal House and Tours Isle of Man should also receive mentions.

‘Ultimately, this film would not have been made had it not been for MannIN Shorts, the island’s short film scheme.

‘All of I Do’s crew are trainees of the scheme and most of its cast are alumni of its acting workshops – they’re fantastic.’
