One of the island’s foremost motorsport fundraisers reaches an important milestone this week as the Hogg auction notches up 25 years.
Shaun Hogg, who organises the event along with parents Alec and Sheila in memory of his brother Phil, said this year’s event promised to be a major attraction with some superb items on offer.
The auction, which is again at the Palace Hotel in Douglas on Friday February 27, will be offering a range of fantastic racing photographs, paintings on canvas, clothing, helmets and other racing-related goods and memorabilia.
‘The first auction was a fairly small event mainly for family and friends,’ said Shaun. ‘The idea was to try to raise some money for an ambulance dedicated to Phil, and it’s evolved into quite a big event now. Some of the stuff we have on offer is unbelievable and it just gets bigger and bigger, but it’s still really a family-organised event.’
Since the first auction and the original Bedford ambulance in 1990, the charity currently has three ambulances.
Lending a hand at the auction will be commentator Roy Moore, and Shaun voiced his thanks also to all supporters including Shirlaw’s in Aberdeen, Phil’s former sponsors, the Steam Packet, Jason Griffiths, Road and Track and Jeremy Gill. There are also goods on offer from Sure, Duke, Greenlight and many more. Admission to the auction is £2.50, 7.30pm start. For details call Shaun on 427771 or Alec and Sheila on 617873.
‘25 years ago we would never have imagined how it would grow,’ said Shaun.
