Programmes from the Isle of Man Football Festival are among those going under the hammer in a charity auction this Sunday.

They are part of a huge collection of memorabilia gathered by avid Newcastle United fan John Alder who was killed when Malaysia Airlines flight 17 was brought down over the Ukraine in July.

The programmes and team sheets from the festivals in 1985 and 1986 feature Alder’s beloved Newcastle, Blackburn, Portsmouth and of course the Isle of Man.

Lot 118, which includes the team sheet from the Magpies’ game with the island on July 30, 1986, features the likes of John Gartland, Neil Shimmin and Eric Nelson, while the two mascots for the day were Paul Jones and Aaron Quinn. The referee was Kevan Maitland.

The Manx lost the match 5-1 with skipper Chris Taggart scoring the island’s only goal.

Lot 116 is made up of items from the previous year’s festival including a United team-sheet featuring the enigmatic Paul Gascoigne.

All the monies raised from the sale organised by Anderson & Garland Ltd go to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. Bids can be placed online at the-saleroom.com for the auction which begins at midday.
