Peel and Old Boys battle it out for cup semi-final spot

The Paddy Power FA Cup takes centre-stage this weekend when the competition’s quarter-finals take place.

The pick of the games is arguably at Douglas Road where in-form Premier League title hopefuls Peel play host to DHSOB.

Nine points separate the sides in second and third in the top flight in Peel’s favour which would suggest victory for the westerners. This is backed up by the form book as the Sunset City side have won five and drawn one of their last six, while Old Boys have won four in that time.

The teams have already met twice this season, firstly in November when Peel clinched a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Dan Pickering and Josh Kelly.

Since then, however, the sides met in the Railway Cup semi-finals when Old Boys triumphed 4-3 in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Therefore Peel will be desperate to avenge that defeat and, while a close game should be in store, the westerners should have enough to progress to the semi-finals.

Elsewhere, there are two interesting Premier League versus Division Two contests as Colby take on Ramsey at the Station Fields and Malew travel to the Bowl to face St Mary’s.

After four successive wins, Colby are in a fine run of form and should be full of confidence heading into their clash with a Ramsey side who enjoyed an excellent start to the season but have faded slightly in recent weeks.

The northerners, however, do still lie up in sixth place in the top flight and will fancy their chances of avoiding a cupset at the hands of their lower league opponents so a good game could be in store.

The match at the Bowl sees Andy Glover return to his old stomping ground and the striker couldn’t be in better form going into the game, having notched his 30th goal of the season last weekend in style when he netted all four of his side’s goals against Douglas and District.

Despite letting a two-goal lead slip at DHSOB last time out, St Mary’s will be firm favourites to advance.

The last quarter-final sees a repeat of last week’s league meeting between St George’s and Corinthians. Geordies won that game 4-0 at Ballafletcher and will be expected to repeat the trick this weekend.
