Relegation ‘six-pointer’ takes place in top flight

Away from the excitement of the FA Cup, there are five games taking place across the Premier League and Division Two on Saturday.

Despite the reduced league programme, there is plenty to play for across both divisions, notably the battle to avoid relegation in the top flught and the race for promotion from the second tier.

Union Mills boosted their survival hopes with a hard-fought point at St John’s last Saturday and this weekend go into a so-called ‘six-pointer’ with bottom-of-the-table Michael United.

Victory for the Millers would effectively seal United’s fate as they would be nine points off safety with a vastly inferior goal difference with three games left.

The flip side of that is that, should the westerners claim three points then hopes of their own great escape would be boosted.

The other game is a mid-table battle between seventh place Laxey and fifth-placed St John’s, with both needing a win to maintain their hopes of a top-four finish.

There is a potentially massive clash taking place in JCK Division Two when two sides in the top three go head-to-head.

Marown and RYCOB lie level on points, with the Crosby side ahead in second on goal difference, and victory for either would put them level on points with leaders Douglas Athletic.

With so much at stake, a tight and tense affair could unfold at the Memorial Playing Fields on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Douglas and District face a tough trip to in-form Pulrose United, while Foxdale and Onchan will do battle at Billy Goat Park.
