Manxman escapes serious injury after incident on Monday’s ninth stage of grand tour
MARK Cavendish was involved in another crash in the closing stages of Monday’s ninth stage of the Giro d’Italia between San Giorgio del Sannio and Frosinone.
He was again being led out by his Sky team-mates, including fellow Manxman Peter Kennaugh, when Australian Matt Goss crashed on a tight left-hander 300 metres from the finish, taking two or three other riders down with him.
Cavendish almost squeezed through on the right, but he was unable to avoid all of the debris and went over the handlebars of his bike after colliding with the barriers. Luckily, he escaped serious injury and was able to remount to complete the relatively short 166km stage.
