A 92-year-old from Greeba has become this year’s Manx Style Ploughing Champion at the Charlie Caine 2015 Ploughing Match.
Harold Leece fought off John Dobson, from Abbeylands, to win the title by just three points, with David Corlett, from Peel, in third place.
A total of nine competitors took to the field provided by Gordon Clague at Shenharra, Peel.
Gordon Clague, from Glen Maye, was the winner of the horse ploughing class and Peel’s Ciaran Cain took the best newcomer award.

Tractors; 1st Harold Leece (Greeba) 156 points, 2nd John Dobson (Abbeylands) 153 points, 3rd David Corlett (Peel) 148 points, 4th Billy Cormode (Bride) 140 points, 5th Michael Craine (Kirk Michael) 127 points, 6th Ciaran Cain (Peel) 125 points.
Horses; 1st Gordon Clague 148 points, 2nd Nicola Rawnsley 145 points, 3rd Samantha Crellin 130 points
There was also a ploughing match held by the Northern Young Farmers at Jurby on Sunday, February 8. Vintage Hydraulic: 1st Alan Radcliff (Bride). World Style/ Classic 1st Colin Duggan (Ballasalla). Vintage Trailer Plough: 1st Tony Collister (East Foxdale). Horses: 1st Sean Gale (Peel).
The Manx National Ploughing Match, will be held this Saturday, February 14, at the Cooil on land opposite the Horse and Plough pub. Everyone is welcome and there will categories for tractors and horses.
