A former children’s home could be converted into a bail and probation hostel.
Tromode House on Ballafletcher Road in Cronkbourne closed its doors on December 1 after 22 years.
Originally built as a secure unit for young people and latterly home to five children, it had been operated for the last 10 years by the St Christopher’s charity on behalf of the government.
Now the Department of Home Affairs has submitted a planning application (15/00128) to convert the first floor of the home into a rehabilitation and resettlement centre for those awaiting trial and offenders released from prison or on probation.
