A Jade Burden strike five minutes from time was enough to secure Corinthians a 4-3 win over Gymnasium at Tromode on Sunday and register the Whites’ first victory of 2015.
The Whites led the Warehouse Fitness Women’s League encounter 2-1 at the break, however, there was an inspired come-back from the Cronkbourne side who levelled matters to make it 3-3.
Burden was joined on the scoresheet by a Kiera Morgan brace and an own goal. Lauren Miller and Eleanor Gawne (pen) were on target for Gymnasium. The match also saw a Gawne penalty saved by goalkeeper Elizabeth Stanley.
Peel continued their impressive form with a 9-1 over Douglas Royal. Leading 4-1 at the break, Maxine Smalley (3), Sarah Wignall (2), Natalie Swales, Vanessa Christian, Sarah O’Reilly and Becky Corkish found the target for the westerners. The Ballafletcher side, who started with only 10 players and finished with nine, netted via a Rebecca Cole strike.
DHSOB registered their second league win of the season with a 9-0 victory over Colby at Station Road.
Leading 4-0 at the intermission, Ceri Purvis (2), Helen Cooper (2), Maria Coulter (2), Hannah Swan, Amy Beggs-Cairney and Gemma Cairney scored for the Blackberry Lane side. Colby could only field nine players and the match was played 35 minutes each way.
A full round up will appear in this week’s Manx Independent.
