AN initiative is being launched to provide detailed visitor information about the island’s tourist attractions at a range of key points around the island.

The plan is to set up around 20 tourist information centres across the island, providing easily accessible information for visitors.

Information will be available detailing the variety of attractions, activities and events happening around the island throughout the tourist season.

Local firm Bridson and Horrox has been awarded the contract to print, package, store and distribute the visitor information after successfully tendering for the contract.

Initially the information will be supplied to all of the tourist information centres.

After that, it will be made available to the larger hotels and guest houses. Once this stage is completed the information will then be rolled out to all providers of registered accommodation and also to major attractions across the island.

John Sheridan, Bridson and Horrox Group senior sales manager, said he was delighted to have secured the contract.

‘We are very excited to be part of this new initiative by the department,’ he said.

‘We recognise the important part that printed information plays in helping visitors get the most out of their stay on the Isle of Man and am looking forward to working with providers to get the tourism message out.’

Geoff Corkish MHK, political member for the Department of Economic Development with responsibility for tourism, said he hoped the initiative would help to enhance the experience visitors had when coming to the island.

‘The introduction of this distribution system is an important part of our marketing strategy in that it will help allow visitors to get the best experience during their stay and allow island residents easy access to information to help encourage friends and family to visit,’ he said.

A statement from the Department of Economic Development said the service was one of a number of initiatives being put in place by the Department to ensure they continue to attract visitors to the Isle of Man and make them aware of all that there is on offer.

The department will contact directly all proposed users of the new system over the coming days by letter to provide them with all the information they need to start using the service.
