THE STOLEN RNLI money has been returned after a plea made in the Manx Independent.
Port St Mary’s Lifeboat’s second coxswain Mick Kneale made the plea in the Independent last week, after the theft. He was distraught after he left an envelope, which was clearly marked as containing charity funds, on the front passenger seat of an unlocked van, and an opportunist criminal struck.
On Saturday morning the missing envelope had been posted through the letter box of Port St Mary lifeboat station. The money was in the exact envelope which was taken from Mr Kneale’s Peugeot Expert van, that was parked outside the boat house in Lime Street when he was working last week.
He said: ‘I am astounded. We are delighted and amazed the money has been returned. I am surprised to see it back at all. Somebody must have had a conscience, whoever took it stepped up to the mark.’
Meanwhile, kind-hearted people have donated over £300 on a justgiving page after hearing the news of the missing funds.
And, after hearing of Mr Kneale’s plea, Ballasalla business Domicilium, donated £600 to Port St Mary’s RNLI. Despite learning of the good news about the returned funds, the company still donated the £600.
