A host of the island’s talented cyclists will be in action on the track this weekend.
Several Manx riders are heading to Manchester to compete in the second round of the Revolution Series at the National Cycling Centre on Saturday.
Commonwealth Games silver medallist Peter Kennaugh is the headline star as he competes in the men’s elite endurance championship alongside Games team-mate Jake Kelly.
Kennaugh produced some memorable performances in the series last year, including lapping the field no fewer than seven times in a single points race
Joining the duo in Manchester are Anna Christian who will compete in the women’s equivalent against the likes of Laura Trott and Jo Rowsell.
Talented youngster Matthew Draper is also due to ride for Team Polypipe in the future stars’ boys category, having finished a fine eighth in the opening round.
Also in action this week is Mark Cavendish who is currently making his return to track cycling at the prestigious Ghent Six event in Belgium, a six-day race which continues until Sunday.
The Manx Missile and his Omega Pharma Quick-Step team-mate Iljo Keisse made a solid start to the event as they took second place in the Madison, team elimination and points race - even negotiating his way past a stray cat which had somehow found its way onto the track!
Following his fine silver-medal winning performance in the first round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Mexico recently, Mark Christian has been named in the Great Britain team to compete in the second round.
Another of the island’s stars at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Christian will again team up with Steve Burke, Ed Clancy, Jon Dibben, Owain Doull and Andy Tennant to compete in the men’s endurance events at the the Lee Valley VeloPark between December 5-7.
