Milford-based Mat Dibb, who suffers from a chronic kidney disease, set a record for an electric/pedal hybrid cycle round the Mountain Course on Sunday.

His goal was to better TT ace Conor Cummins’s electric pedal hybrid time of 2hr 41min 46ses set in 2012. Both bikes combine a pre-charge with conventional pedal power.

Dibb was first away in Team Manx Telecom’s Nelson Trophy Time Trial at 7am and smashed the previous best in a time of 1:28.37. This will now be recognised as a category bench mark for the Mountain Course by Guinness World Records.

In the Shoprite Challenge relay, 24 teams lined up in pit lane with their team-mates spread around the seven legs of the 37.7-mile course.

RL360 Boys’ A took a stunning victory in a combined time of 1:42.44 to finish 1m 22s ahead of the experienced Microgaming outfit. The latter had the consolation of winning the Aon Schuss prize for the fastest downhill leg - Bungalow to Grandstand - and their own ‘speed merchant’ prize for the fastest overall leg (8m 44s) from Highlander to Laurel Bank.

PwC won KPMG’s prize for the fastest time on the mountain climb between Ramsey Hairpin and Guthrie’s Memorial (13m 54s) while RL360 Girls’ took the women’s title in 2:04.48.

Other prize winners included Cheesy Wheelers, who took the Capital International Vets title in 2:34.30, while OMS were the first mixed team. Ernst & Young were awarded the Callin Wild Spirit of Cycle for Life fun prize.
