Police are hunting a robber who snatched a handbag containing £5,000 in cash off a woman in broad daylight.
The victim was left with minor injuries after a brief struggle with the mugger during the incident which took place yesterday afternoon (Monday) in the service lane behind the Rosemount pub in Douglas.
In the medium sized black imitation leather handbag, which has two shoulder straps, was a number of personal items and about £5,000 in cash.
Police have made a search of the immediate area but are also asking residents locally to check their bins, gardens and yards for any potentially discarded items.
The suspect is described as a white man between 5ft 6ins to 5ft 8ins tall in his early to mid-20s with a dark stubble beard, and wearing a black hooded top.
Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed a man matching that description in the area around 2.35pm on Monday to come forward.
They would also like people to contact police on 631212, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, if they know of anyone who has come into a large amount of cash since the offence or know of anyone in financial difficulties who may have been desperate to commit such an act.
