An inquest into the death of a Manx Grand Prix rider who was killed during a practice session on Tuesday has opened and adjourned.
Stephen Samuel McIlvenna, who was 40 and from Randalstown in Northern Ireland, died from multiple injuries, due to, or as a consequence of a motorcycle racing accident during a practice session of the 2014 Manx Grand Prix.
Coroner of inquests Jayne Hughes read brief extracts from three statements, from Dr Gareth Davies, who attended the accident, PC Mark Moyer, and Dr Ervine Long, who performed the post mortem.
Dr Davies said that he arrived at the scene of an accident at the end of the Mountain Mile section of the A18 Mountain Road in the parish of Lezayre at 8.15pm on Tuesday via the rescue helicopter.
Mr McIlvenna was lying near the wall and suffered severe injuries to his forehead, chest and limbs.
At 8.21pm he was pronounced dead.
Mrs Hughes asked for her condolences to be passed on to Mr McIlvenna’s family, who did not attend the inquest.
Investigations are continuing and the inquest will resume at a later date.
