WITH a time 10 seconds faster than his opening gambit seven days earlier, Darren Bell (Ellan Vannin) topped the standings in round two of the Conister Bank 10-mile time trial league on the Sandygate course last Wednesday.
His time of 22 minutes 03 seconds was 14s faster than impressive teenager Josh Knights (Manx Viking Wheelers), with fellow junior Jake Kelly (MVW) also inside 23 minutes. Knights, 16, was 12 seconds inside his previous best second time out on a new time trial bike.
Juan Kinley (Team Manx Telecom) was the leading veteran, fourth overall in 23.04, while fellow over-40s Rob Cormode and Peter Gage (both Team Manx Telecom) completed the top-six on what was a decent night.
Three juveniles made it into the top-20, namely Nick Corlett (Manx Mountain Bike Club), Leon Mazzone and Jamie Dudley (both Team Royal London 360) - all within 30s of one another.
Anna Christian (MVW), sister of GB international Mark, was the fastest female in a strong 26.08, with another star of the future, Lizzie Holden (RL360), not far behind.
Special Olympian Chris Hattersley was detained in hospital overnight for observation following a spill. The level of the sun made it difficult to see far up the road on the run up to St Jude’s crossroads (after the turn) and he collided with a parked vehicle near St Jude’s Church/Parish Hall. He was slighty battered and bruised, but otherwise OK.
