Kirk Michael couple Norman and Eileen Bennett met during a three-legged race when they were 16 years old – and have been together ever since.
They were married in Leicester on July 2, 1949, and went on to have two sons.
Peter is a history teacher in Boston, Lincolnshire, while Nigel is headteacher at St John’s School and is set to retire at the end of term.
The couple lived and worked in Grantham, where Norman was employed by Aveling Barford as a computer operator and travelled throughout Europe during his career.
Eileen, meanwhile, was a secretary at a secondary school in the town.
They retired to the Isle of Man in 1988 to be near their three grandchildren: James, who is now married and lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Bryony, who is married and lives in Buckinghamshire; and Aalish, who has recently returned from travelling and currently works for Skandia in the island.
Close friends and family helped Norman and Eileen celebrate their Blue Sapphire 65th wedding anniversary at Nigel’s home in Kirk Michael.
