Following their recent TT show at Amber, The Clown Calls For War return to the Douglas venue this Saturday for some more experimental, alternative rock and pop.
Support for this show comes in the form of a stripped down version of local alternative band, Postcode with lead vocalist Marie Reynolds and guitarist Mikie Daugherty opening the proceedings. The doors open at 8pm and the event is free entry.
The now annual Ramsey Rocks event takes places tonight (Friday) between 7pm and 11pm. This free open-air event that takes place on Ramsey quayside, sees a fairly diverse line up taking to the stage.
Comprising of swing/lounge/jazz band, Lava El Elefante, college rock covers band (think Blink 182, Green Day and Eat World), The Barefoot Revolution and 80s’ hair rock favourites 9 Bar Gypsies wheeling out covers from the likes of Guns ‘N’ Roses, Kiss and Steel Panther, it’s well worth a look if you’re up that way.
Now for something a little different. If you’re a fan of something a little more traditional than your normal indie, rock, metal bands and singer/songwriters doing the rounds of the gig circuit on the island, then I highly suggest having a look at Manx folk/rock and contemporary trio Shoh Slaynt.
Shoh Slaynt is Manx for cheers or here’s health.
The band comprises of Sue Harrison (vocals/guitar and accordion), Paul Reynolds (vocals/guitar) and Ken Crellin (harmonica/Anglo concertina).
The band lists their individual influences from Irish ballads, country songs and lots of contemporary songs, James Taylor, Neil Young, Van Morrison to Manx, Irish and British folk songs. The band appear this Friday from 8.30pm at The Tynwald Inn, St John’s.
Harry Radford, lead vocalist of Yashin, returns to the island for some acoustic shows this weekend alongside Mikey Randall, the vocalist from UK based Glamour of the Kill.
The boys take in The Bridge in Douglas on Thursday, The Royal George in Ramsey on Friday, The Railway on Saturday and The Carnival Live Lounge on Sunday, both in Douglas.
Acoustic covers act, Ian Thompson – who must be one of the hardest working artistes of his type on the island – appears at The Station in Port St Mary on Friday and then at The Queen’s in Douglas on Saturday.
