Staff and pupils at Laxey Primary School are sowing the seeds for a blaze of colour in the village next spring.
The school’s gardening club have planted hundreds of bulbs in the school grounds and around the community after they were donated by Riley’s Garden Centre.
Headteacher Jean Aksoy said: ‘Together with some families in the Easter holidays the club have worked in the school grounds, around fences, under trees and along walls planting the different varieties of bulbs, from daffodils and narcissus to tulips and bluebells.’
She continued: ‘Lynne Beattie, who runs the club, took some of our year six children to All Saints’ Church, Lonan, where they spent the afternoon working with their mums and tots group and reverend Jo Dudley, planting daffodils in the grounds. The pupils displayed such respect for their surroundings, and worked together so well, they couldn’t have made us more proud.
‘Thank you very much to Riley’s Garden Centre for this generous donation.’
Thomas Riley, of Riley’s Garden Centre, said: ‘We were extremely pleased to donate nearly £500 worth of bulbs to Laxey School for their community projects around the village. These projects will benefit the whole village next spring. It is fantastic for our company to be able to support local communities across the island in this way.’
The school will also be donating some of the bulbs to Christ Church Laxey and Laxey Methodist Church.
